Windfarm Update: EnBW Baltic 2

On 26 August installation activities started at the 288MW EnBW Baltic 2 wind farm.

The installation of the in total 80 Siemens SWT-3,6-120 turbines is being performed by the VIDAR. EnBW Baltic 2 is being constructed 32km north of the island Rügen, in the German Baltic Sea, in an area covering 27km2. The turbines are installed on 41 tripod jackets and 39 monopile foundations, depending on the water depth, which varies from 20 to 45m.

The 4,400t substation which was built at the shipyard of Abu Dhabi Mar Kiel was also ready for installation but the first attempt failed due to bad weather. It had to be towed to the port of Sassnitz to wait for better weather conditions. At the end of September the second attempt was successful.

The wind farm is a project by utility EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. Once fully operational it will be producing enough green energy for the annual consumption of around 340.000 households. An OSM base is being constructed at the moment in Rostock.
