Zhonggu Shipping Orders Four Boxships from Jinling

Jinling Shipyard, a shipbuilding arm of CSC Sinotrans, has signed a construction contract with Shanghai-based Zhonggu Shipping for four 2,500 TEU container ships.

The boxships will be designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI) and will feature the latest energy-saving features, the yard said.

The ships will boast a length overall (LOA) of 180 meters, a width of 32.2 meters and a depth of 16.2 m.

According to the Chinese shipbuilder, the orders received mark a new breakthrough for Jinling Shipyard in the battle for market orders, especially when considering the overcapacity in the country’s shipbuilding market.

Under the terms of the contract, the ships are slated to start delivery as of March, 2018.

This is the second order placed by Zhonggu Shipping in less than a month, as the company had in May booked construction of four 2,500 TEU boxships at Shanghai Shipyard.
