4 LNG newbuilds get GTT technology

GTT, specialist in the design of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG, announced the notification of four LNGCs which will be built by the Chinese shipbuilding company Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

The new ships will be jointly owned by Teekay, the third largest independent owner of LNG carriers, CNOOC, China LNG Shipping and BW.

The first vessel is expected to be delivered in 2017 and the three others within the two following years. They will be built with the proven NO 96 technology which benefits from more than 40 years of successful experience at sea.

These four new orders highlight the importance of the partnership between HZ and GTT and bring the total number of LNGCs ordered by HZ to 20, six of which are in currently in service, GTT said in a statement.

Commenting on this latest order, Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT declared “We are pleased to further strengthen our relations with our Chinese partners while noting that our technologies are once more recognized by the LNG shipping operators.”
