BP books SLB OneSubsea for work on its Gulf of America oil project

UK-headquartered energy giant BP has tasked SLB OneSubsea, a joint venture between SLB (formerly Schlumberger), Aker Solutions, and Subsea7, with a subsea boosting mission for its deepwater greenfield development in the Gulf of America (U.S. Gulf of Mexico).

OneSubsea will provide a subsea boosting system for the greenfield development of BP’s Tiber project in the deepwater U.S. offshore region, thanks to this engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. The standardized boosting system solution is perceived to deliver substantial cost and time savings.

The deal comes in close succession to the award of a sister subsea boosting system for BP’s Kaskida development. Both projects, which target prolific Paleogene reserves, are said to leverage the same supplier-led, standardized high-pressure subsea pump system solution.

Mads Hjelmeland, CEO at SLB OneSubsea, commented: “We look forward to helping bp realize even more value from their Paleogene developments. We are seeing more and more operators adopt subsea boosting strategies that free up topside space and reduce power requirements.”

BP’s $5 billion Tiber-Guadalupe deepwater development project, sanctioned in September 2025, will use a new floating production unit (FPU) with 80,000 barrels per day capacity, targeting the Paleogene formations with advanced 20,000 psi (20K) technology.

This project, which is expected to achieve first oil around 2030, will be BP’s second major development to deploy 20,000 psi subsea equipment, following Kaskida, for safe and efficient production from ultra-high-pressure reservoirs in the Paleogene.

The FPU will sport 85% of the design of the UK-headquartered oil major’s Kaskida platform. This development will help access around 10 billion barrels of discovered resources in place across BP’s U.S. Gulf Paleogene assets.

Seatrium recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the operator to provide engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services for the Tiber FPU.

The Tiber discovery was originally made in 2009, but technical challenges and cost concerns delayed its development for years.
