Apache taps Shearwater for Forties field 4D survey

Shearwater GeoServices has secured a contract from Apache for a 4D seismic survey with 3D extension over the Forties field.

The Apache-operated Forties oil field is located 110 miles north-east of Aberdeen in the UK sector of the Central North Sea.

The project will start in Q2 2020 and should last for approximately one-and-a-half-month.

The diesel/electric powered seismic vessel Amazon Warrior will carry out the survey.

In January, Shearwater announced multiple 4D surveys for execution in the 2020 North Sea season.

Irene Waage Basili, the CEO of Shearwater GeoServices , said:

“We are very pleased to see a Shearwater Qmarine 4D crew returning to the Forties Field for the fourth time.

“The project adds to the North Sea 4D program we announced earlier this year and we continue to demonstrate industry leading technology and experience in 4D seismic.”

The Qmarine point-receiver marine seismic system entered the market in 2000.

It introduced a number of new concepts to the towed-streamer market.

The Qmarine system pioneered steerable streamers by introducing the Q-Fin marine seismic streamer steering system.

The Q-Fin system’s remote-controlled wings reduce noise and enable both depth control and horizontal steering.

Horizontal streamer steering provides feather correction, safe streamer separation control, fan-mode shooting, active steering for optimal coverage, as well as 4D repeatability.
