Asia - Pacific Submarine Cable Planned for 2014

On the basis of the proposal of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Prime Minister has approved participation for investment projects submarine cable systems in Asia – Pacific (APG) of the partnership Viettel, FPT Telecom and CMC TI, reports Chinhphu.vn.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister of the Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel) acting as project implementation unit, acquired comments and worked closely with the relevant agencies to strictly implement the provisions of the law and satisfactory resolution of the issues raised from the investment project.

APG (Asia-Pacific Gateway) is a fiber optic cable that will connect directly with the major economies in the region such as China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and is a key reserve online for international channels active today as IA, AAG. APG will be a submarine cable with a total length of 8,000 km, running from South Korea to Malaysia with an initial bandwidth of 4 Tbps. The planned submarine cable will be put into operation in 2014.

Some suggested that more submarine cables in Vietnam are essential because in 2011-2012 AAG submarine cable had at least six incidents or maintenance affecting Internet connection speed.

International submarine cable route in Vietnam is linear Asia (IA) 2, which was having trouble that had a huge impact on Internet access speed.
