Baker Hughes: International Offshore Rig Count for July Up Year-on-Year

Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI) announced today that the international rig count for July 2013 was 1,305, down 28 from the 1,333 counted in June 2013, and up 41 from the 1,264 counted in July 2012. The international offshore rig count for July 2013 was 320, down 17 from the 337 counted in June 2013, and up 33 from the 287 counted in July 2012.

The average U.S. rig count for July 2013 was 1,766, up 5 from the 1,761 counted in June 2013, and down 179 from the 1,945 counted in July 2012. The average Canadian rig count for July 2013 was 291, up 108 from the 183 counted in June 2013, and down 16 from the 307 counted in July 2012.

The worldwide rig count for July 2013 was 3,362, up 85 from the 3,277 counted in June 2013, and down 154 from the 3,516 counted in July 2012.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets.  Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.  Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
