Baker Hughes September Offshore Rig Numbers Up

Baker Hughes Incorporated announced today that the international rig count for September 2013 was 1,284, up 17 from the 1,267 counted in August 2013, and up 30 from the 1,254 counted in September 2012.

The international offshore rig count for September 2013 was 313, up 4 from the 309 counted in August 2013, and up 20 from the 293 counted in September 2012.

The average U.S. rig count for September 2013 was 1,760, down 21 from the 1,781 counted in August 2013, and down 99 from the 1,859 counted in September 2012. The average Canadian rig count for September 2013 was 387, up 19 from the 368 counted in August 2013, and up 32 from the 355 counted in September 2012.

The worldwide rig count for September 2013 was 3,431, up 15 from the 3,416 counted in August 2013, and down 37 from the 3,468 counted in September 2012.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canadaand international markets.  Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.  Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
