Bechtel-Led ROPES Project Reaches Its Final Testing Phase

The Bechtel-led ROPES (Research on Passing Effects on Ships) Joint Industry Project has reached its final testing phase. The project, which focuses on the effect of passing ships on moored ships, will lead to new design guidelines for ports and waterways, creating safer navigation and improved loading capacity.

Last week, in the Port of Rotterdam, the final full-scale tests started, which are an essential part of the overall program and needed for the validation of the design guidelines.

The final results will be available in November 2013 to ROPES participants and the new guidelines will be presented in September next year at the annual PIANC conference in San Francisco, which will be sponsored by Bechtel.
