Brazil: Oil workers’ strike continues

One of the largest oil workers’ strikes in Brazil in decades still continues.

The workers are protesting against the plan by the state-run oil company Petrobras to sell its assets and cut investment in the next couple of years in order to reduce debt, as they claim thousand of jobs will be lost.

Petrobras on Monday said that the strike coordinated by the oil workers’ unions still continued and the impact in the oil output in Brazil remained around 115,000 barrels a day.

The company and the unions met on Monday, where unions demanded Petrobras reversed its divestment plans and budget cuts. No agreement was reached, and the parties will meet again on Tuesday to discuss the matters further.

“Petrobras is making all efforts to pursue the settlement of the 2015 collective bargaining agreement,” the company said.
