Carnegie tests CETO 6 technology at FloWave

Research & Development

Carnegie Wave has performed tank tests of their CETO 6 wave energy converter at FloWave ocean energy testing facility, in Edinburgh.

The aim of the tests was to understand the performance of CETO 6 technology under a range of operational conditions, as well as implementing CETO 1 advanced tuning strategies.

The tests also enabled the validation of loads under varying conditions, as well as the validation of Carnegie’s numerical modeling.

According to Carnegie Wave, the results of the tests have confirmed company’s confidence with the progression of the CETO 6 unit design, as the tests showed to be in agreement with numerical modelling, including power output, loads and motions.

Carnegie Wave is strengthening its presence in United Kingdom through its subsidiary CWE UK.

The company is involved in site development activities in Cornwall as part of the CETO 6 WaveHub project.

CETO 6 technology builds on the experience from previous CETO generations. The unit has the capacity of 1 MW, with the diameter of approximately 20 m.

The CETO 6 Project is expected to consist of 3 unit array with 3 MW total capacity. The project construction is scheduled to start in 2016.
