China-built methanol dual-fuel container vessel ready for charter with Maersk

Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding has delivered a methanol dual-fuelled container vessel at its shipyard in China that will go on a charter with Denmark-based container shipping giant A.P. Moller – Maersk.

The methanol dual-fuelled 5,900 TEU type container carrier was delivered by Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Inc. (TZS), Tsuneishi Shipbuilding‘s manufacturing base in China, on February 3.

“The delivery of this methanol dual-fuelled container vessel at TZS marks an important milestone, demonstrating that TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has entered a phase in which alternative-fuel vessels can be built continuously at overseas manufacturing bases,” said Okumura Sachio, Representative Director, President and Executive Officer of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.

“We will continue to prioritise safety and quality while advancing the construction of alternative-fuel vessels under our global production framework, working in close coordination with our manufacturing bases in Japan and overseas.”

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding in May 2025 delivered a methanol dual-fuelled Ultramax bulk carrier at its Tsuneishi Factory in Japan. This was followed by the delivery of what the company says is the world’s first methanol dual-fuelled Kamsarmax bulk carrier at Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (CEBU) in the Philippines last month.
