China: First steel cut for OOS International’s new SSCV

The construction of OOS International Group’s newbuild semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) has kicked off with a steel cutting ceremony in China.

Being built by China Merchants Industry Holdings, the vessel – to be named OOS Serooskerke – is the first of two units OOS ordered from the Chinese back in August 2016.

Once finished, the OOS Serooskerke will be able to accommodate 750 persons on board. It will have two heavy lift Huisman cranes with a total tandem lift capacity of 4,400t, and will have the capability to reach a speed up to 12 knots.

As for the OOS Walcheren, the second vessel on order which will be identical to the OOS Serooskerke, it is scheduled to have its steel cutting ceremony in a few months. The delivery of the OOS Serooskerke is scheduled for 2019.
