CSIC Announces Development of Manned Submersible (China)

China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (CSIC), a state-owned enterprise, announced that it is building a manned submersible that can plunge to a depth of 4,500 meters, the China Daily reports.

CSIC submersible forms a part of a larger plan for the nation to eventually build a deep sea station where submersibles can pier and oceanauts can work.

The company already built the Jiaolong manned submersible which has returned to its test base after completing deep sea diving missions in the Mariana Trench.

It made record dives of more than 7,000 meters during a 44-day test mission in the Pacific Ocean.

The CSIC will cooperate with associated government departments to further drive ahead the research and development of deep-sea products, the company stated at a press conference.
