Dreifa Energy taps Wärtsilä for FRU module delivery

Dreifa Energy signed a deal with Wärtsilä to secure delivery of the regasification module for the first Dreifa floating regasification unit (FRU).

Entering into the agreement is a significant step forward for Dreifa Energy in confirming a key part of the overall capital expenditure for the Dreifa FRU, the company said in a statement.

Moreover, the recent approval in principle granted by DNV GL and the agreement with Wärtsilä enable Dreifa Energy to execute on a fast track project schedule by securing the long lead items for the first Dreifa FRU conversion project.

The Dreifa FRU consists of a regasification plant and associated utility systems located on the deck of a platform supply vessel which would operate in combination with an LNG carrier acting as a floating storage unit (FSU).

Dreifa Energy, a mid-scale floating LNG import terminals developer, was formed in 2016 by Flex LNG co-founders, Jostein Ueland and Trym Tveitnes that left the LNG shipping company in the same year and teamed up with a third colleague Henrik Austgulen in the new company.

The company aims to build, own and operate a fleet of FRUs, noting it has already received interest for its solution and continues to mature several LNG import projects around the world by working closely with its partners.
