DSME Delivers Maersk Line's First Triple-E Vessel

Yesterday, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) delivered the first Triple-E vessel, the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller to Maersk Line. At the moment, the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller is docked at DSME, from where it will depart on its maiden voyage to Russia, on 15 July.

Management from DSME and Maersk signed the official documents for ownership of the vessel. Dr. Choi, Executive Vice President, DSME and Palle Laursen, VP-Ship Management, Maersk Line, exchange a handshake and congratulated the teams on a job well done.

At four-hundred metres long, 59 metres wide and 73 metres high, the 18,000 TEU (twenty-foot container) capacity of the ‘Triple-E’ is 16 percent greater (2,500 containers) than today’s largest container vessel. Called the ‘Triple-E’ class for the three main purposes behind their creation — economy of scale, energy efficiency and environmentally improved — the ships set a new industry benchmark for size and fuel efficiency.
