Dunkerque LNG: storage tanks tests nearing completion

France’s Dunkerque LNG has made another step towards the start-up of the terminal as it began testing of the three liquefied natural gas tanks.

According to Jean Caparros, project manager for Entrepose Projects, the infrastructure specialist, the three tanks have been lit up, marking the end of the construction phase and the start of a series of checks of the components and associated equipment.

Caparros said the equipment and accessories will be tested to see if they react correctly to the various demands which may be made of them during operation.

Tests involve the simulation of breakdowns and incidents, as well as checking if the valves are correctly sealed and that the piping which will transport the LNG has been bled of oxygen and dried correctly.

About 90 percent of the test have been completed during the last month and the first gas flow from the EDF-operated terminal is still expected in early 2016 following the delivery of the testing and commissioning LNG cargo.
