EC-OG onboard Scottish Environment Business Awards final cut

Aberdeen-based East Coast Oil and Gas Engineering (EC-OG) has been selected as a finalist for the 2017 VIBES – Scottish Environment Business Awards in recognition of its commitment to the environment.

EC-OG is nominated within the Innovation category which spotlights businesses that have developed innovative technologies, products, practices or services that bring about a positive effect on the environment and Scottish business.

The company has received the recognition for its subsea hybrid drive system, the Subsea Power Hub, which uses the combination of marine energy converter and lithium based energy storage system to produce and store renewable energy.

As reported earlier, the Subsea Power Hub was installed and turned on in April this year at the European Marine Energy Test Center (EMEC), where it will remain under trials until the end of September 2017.

The total of 38 finalists have been selected across nine individual award categories which aim to recognize the different ways organizations are implementing environmental best practice in their daily activity – from developing new products and services to improving processes.

The awards aim to encourage the efficient use of resources, enhance the competitiveness of businesses, improve environmental performance and support the wider goals of sustainable development including social benefits through community and staff involvement.

The award ceremony will take place in Edinburgh at Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa on November 15, 2017.

The VIBES – Scottish Environment Business Awards are a partnership between Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), the Scottish government, Energy Saving Trust, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Water, Zero Waste Scotland and the 20:20 Climate Group.
