ExxonMobil elects new president

American oil and gas major ExxonMobil has promoted Darren W. Woods to the role of president of ExxonMobil Corporation and a member of the board of directors.

The appointment will be effective January 1, 2016.

According to ExxonMobil, with the addition of Woods, the company’s board is now comprised of 13 directors, 11 of whom are non-employee directors.

Rex W. Tillerson will continue his position of chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the corporation.

Woods was elected to his current position of senior vice president and a member of the management committee of the corporation June 1, 2014.

He joined Exxon Company International in 1992 as a planning analyst. He held a number of domestic and international assignments for ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company, ExxonMobil Chemical Company and Exxon Company International, and he served as manager of investor relations for Exxon Mobil Corporation.

Woods held positions as vice president of supply and transportation and director of refining for Europe, Africa and the Middle East for ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company and vice president of ExxonMobil Chemical Company.
