ExxonMobil senior VP retires after 38 years

Senior vice president of U.S.-based oil major ExxonMobil has decided to retire after 38 years of service. ExxonMobil has also named a new vice president of human resources.

ExxonMobil said last Friday that Michael J. Dolan, senior vice president of ExxonMobil, announced his intention to retire effective August 1, 2018, after 38 years of service.

Dolan was elected to his current position as senior vice president and a member of the corporation’s Management Committee in 2008.

He has held a variety of technical and managerial positions in the company’s global petroleum refining and petrochemical businesses throughout his career. Dolan started his career in 1980 as a research engineer in Paulsboro. After several assignments in New Jersey, he transferred to Mobil Australia as a technical manager in its refining operations.

He returned to the United States in 1991 and held a number of managerial positions before becoming vice president of Petrochemical Americas in 1998. Following the merger of Exxon and Mobil in 1999, he became a regional director in the ExxonMobil Chemical Company for the Middle East and Africa. In 2001, he became the executive vice president of ExxonMobil Saudi Arabia.

He returned to the U.S. as deputy to the president of ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company in 2003 and was appointed the president of ExxonMobil Chemical Company in 2004.

In a separate statement on Friday, ExxonMobil said it had named Tracey Gunnlaugsson as the company’s new vice president of human resources.

She will replace Malcolm Farrant who chose to retire after 35 years of service. Gunnlaugsson, president of SeaRiver Maritime, will take on the position of human resources VP, effective August 1.

Farrant joined Mobil Corporation in 1983. He held several management positions with increasing responsibilities in marketing, lubricants, and refining in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Singapore. In 2006, he was transferred to the United States and was appointed vice president, Basestocks, Specialties & Asphalt, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties Company.

In 2010, Farrant was appointed downstream business analysis and financial reporting manager for ExxonMobil. Farrant was made executive assistant to the chairman in 2011 and elected to his current position in 2012.

Gunnlaugsson joined Exxon Shipping in 1991 as a U.S. merchant marine deck officer and held various positions within SeaRiver and ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Company before becoming manager of U.S. products supply operations in 2004.

In 2007, she returned to the shipping organization as commercial operations manager and in 2008, moved to Exxon Mobil Corporation headquarters in Irving where she held a variety of advisory positions in investor relations, safety and environment, and strategic planning.

In 2012, she became pipelines and distribution manager for Imperial Oil in Calgary and in 2014, returned to ExxonMobil Refining and Supply as manager of product optimization for the Americas. Two years ago, Gunnlaugsson was appointed to her current position as president and CEO of SeaRiver Maritime an ExxonMobil marine affiliate.
