GMC Wins Nexans Skagerrak Overhaul

Norway’s GMC Maritime has secured a contract with subsea cable specialist Nexans in connection with the planned renewal of class and various upgrades of its cable laying vessel Nexans Skagerrak.

The work scope, which is performed by GMC Maritime’s shipyard on Buøy in Stavanger, includes docking in connection with class inspection, maintenance and upgrading of various ship systems and to build and install a new residential and office module.

Reportedly, the value of the deal is a significant double-digit million amount, and the project will employ just under 100 people from late December to mid-March.

“The contract fits very well now in these challenging times for the industry. We rejoice that we are competitive in a highly depressed market,” said Eirik Fjone, operations manager at GMC Maritime.
