GTT, a specialist in the design of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG, and Imabari, world-class shipbuilder based in Japan, announced the signing of an agreement for the design and construction of two LNG carriers using GTT’s containment system for delivery in 2017.

These vessels will be operated by Elcano, a Spanish ship owner with a long history of operating GTT-designed LNG carriers.

Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT said: “We are very pleased to see Imabari resume building GTT-designed LNG carriers. We have always been impressed by Imabari’s commitment to quality and by their high level of engineering expertise.”

More than 70% of the world’s LNG carrier fleet is equipped with membrane technologies.
