Condition of sunken vessel continues to deteriorate

BOSTON A team of divers that visited the wreck of the Andrea Doria on the 50th anniversary of its sinking says the ship is decaying at a rapid rate.

Many areas they dived on in the past are now unrecognizable, while massive sections of the ship have fallen off and are lying in a debris field on the sea floor.

The Andrea Doria was headed from Italy to New York when it collided with a Swedish ship on a foggy night in 1956 off Nantucket, killing 51 people.
