Hyundai Mipo Nabs Order for 6 Product Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has won an order for the construction of six petrochemical product tankers from an Asian shipowner.

Under the terms of the deal, the newbuild product tankers are scheduled for delivery in 2021. Data from Asiasis shows the ships feature 25,000 dwt each.

The contract is worth KRW 208.3 billion (USD 184.7 million), the shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing.

The latest order brings the company’s recent sales to KRW 2.45 trillion (USD 2.17 billion).

As World Maritime News reported, at the beginning of December, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard inked a deal to build a small-scale LNG carrier for Norway-based Knutsen OAS Shipping.

The shipbuilder said that the vessel is set for delivery in the first quarter of 2021 and that the USD 76.6 million contract includes an option for another 30,000 cbm unit.

In total, the shipbuilder has 86 newbuildings under construction, according to the data from VesselsValue, dominated by chemical/product tankers and handy containers.
