India: Andhra Port and Shipyard Project on Right Track

There is a good chance that the Shipping Ministry will put one of the proposed integrated port and shipyard project in Andhra Pradesh into final form.

The state government has designated 5,000 acres at the following proposed sites: Nakkapally (in Visakhapatnam district), Ramaypatnam (Prakasam) and Durgarajapatnam (Nellore).

The expert committee, established by the Ministry, has visited the Nakapally site, and the visit to the remaining two sites is planned for January 2012. The corresponding recommendations are expected to be delivered a month later.

The NSB expects the project outlay to be about Rs 4,500 crore. There is a great possibility that several state-run companies will be stakeholders in the project.
