Industrial Action Disrupts DP World’s Operation at Fremantle

The industrial action being undertaken by the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) at the Fremantle port has severely constrained DP World’s labour supply on the day shift today, the company said in an update.

According to DP World, there have been no landside operations this morning with the gate being closed from 06:00 – 14:00hrs.

“We have been able to continue some quayline operations but at a reduced level. We expect that normal operations both on the quayline and the landside will resume at 14:00hrs today,” the company added.

The MUA launched protected industrial action at DP World terminals in Australia last week, amid failure to reach a satisfactory bargaining agreement.

The union is also seeking transparency about automation plans in the future and “dignified arrangements for those that will have to exit the industry and fairness in the approach to that process.”

As informed by the terminal operator, the industrial action had previously been advised and then withdrawn before being reintroduced again late last night.

“This disruptive action concerns local issues and is not related to the EA related stoppages that we have seen in the East Coast terminals over the past few days,” DP World explained.
