International offshore rig count for April down year-on-year

The international offshore rig count in April – meaning active rigs – was 201, an improvement March when the number stood at 197.

Year on year, however, the April number shows a drop of 19 units when compared to 220 counted in April 2016.

This is according to a monthly rig count provide by the oilfield services giant Baker Hughes which released the data on Friday.

The report shows the highest number of offshore rigs are currently operating in the Asia Pacific Region – 80.

This is followed by the Middle East (45), Latin America (32), Europe (31), and Africa (13).

Baker Hughes keeps the North America stats separate from the international rig counts.

North America had 20 active offshore rigs in April, same as in March, but down by 7 when compared to 27 active rigs in April 2016.
