JBA Consulting to assess flood risk for Tidal Lagoon Cardiff

Environment

Tidal Lagoon Power (TLP), the developer behind the proposed Cardiff tidal lagoon project, has appointed JBA Consulting to undertake flood risk assessment work for the lagoon.

JBA will deliver the flood risk elements of their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and evaluate the impact of the proposed lagoon on flood risk, in terms of both negative and positive impacts during the construction, operation and decommissioning phases, according to JBA.

Work on the project starts immediately with the EIA due for submission in 2017, JBA Consulting’s press release reads.

The proposed lagoon, between Cardiff and Newport, is planned to have the capacity between 1.8 GW and 2.8 GW, with the annual output of 4 TW/h to 6 TW/h. It will power approximately 1.5 million households in the UK.

Plans for Tidal Lagoon Cardiff include up to 90 turbines set within a 22 km breakwater that will enclose an area of around 70 km2 with an average tidal range of 9.21 m.
