Light Structures, GTT to Develop Sloshing Monitoring Systems for LNG Vessels

Light Structures, the leading producer of fiber-optic monitoring technology, has recently released its new Sloshing Monitoring system and announced on Wednesday that it has entered a marketing agreement with GTT, the French technology and engineering company who is the market leader of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) membrane containment systems.

In the coming years, Light Structures and GTT will work together to develop and market tools and services for the operators of LNG vessels with GTT membrane containment systems, to enhance the safety of operations by monitoring cargo sloshing in the tanks. The new system will be based on Light Structures’s fiber optic monitoring solution and a prediction module to be developed by the partners. Inge C. Paulsen, Light Structures’ Managing  director claims that this will be a breakthrough for their monitoring technology and that it will most likely become a standard equipment on new LNG carriers.

Light Structures AS, a Oslo, Norway based company, provides advanced structural monitoring solutions for shipping, oil & gas, wind and navy. The patented fiber optic technology was developed for the Royal Norwegian Navy but has since its start in 2001 delivered solution to more than 100 units ranging from tankers, bulker, container vessels, LNGC’s, FPSO, drillers and a variety of different navy vessels.
