The 2009-built Malaysian-flagged vessel named Geos was operating in the South China Sea offshore Miri when it caught fire early on Tuesday morning. As a result of the incident, two workers were injured and one went missing.

According to reports from Malaysian media, there were 39 workers on board comprising 33 Malaysians, five Indonesians and a Thai national. The vessel is owned by Kuala Lumpur-based Ageo Marine which is a subcontractor of Petronas.

According to a Wednesday update by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the body of the missing worker has been found today inside the burnt wreckage of the vessel. The body was then retrieved and taken to Marina Miri for further action.

All search and rescue operations have now been terminated.
