Mustang Marine Joins Forces with Milford Haven Ship Repairers (UK)

Business & Finance

Mustang Marine announced the merger of Mustang Marine (Wales) Ltd with Milford Haven Ship Repairers (MHSR). Currently the trading name for Milford Haven Port Authority, MHSR is to be rebranded under the Mustang Marine (Wales) Ltd name and will operate from the existing two sites, the dry dock facility at Milford Dock and the slipway facility adjacent to Mustang Marine in Pembroke Dock.

Mustang Marine, is a reputable boat builder and repairer of workboats, pilot boats, passenger and similar commercial vessels up to 40m in length. Established in 1984 by the Lewis family, the company has witnessed steady growth specifically in the last 5 years. Employing over 80 personnel, up until now Mustang Marine has been owned by its founders who have nurtured her and are now looking forward to taking her to the next step in Mustang Marine’s history.

Kevin Lewis, one of the founders and MD for Mustang Marine comments, “This is an exciting next step in the future. In 2011 we announced the expansion of the current site, enabling us to seek new opportunities within the windfarm market whilst not disrupting the core business. This merger with MHSR is yet another exciting time for us and we are looking to develop and enhance the repair side of the business.

Previously seen as potential competitors to some within the Milford Haven area the merger will create a single and more extensive ship building and repair business. The primary thinking behind this merger is to establish critical mass, where one company can proactively provide a more significant range of services to its customers. Merging the two organisations will see an injection of cash enabling these two highly complementary skilled teams to synergise as one

Benefits to customers and potential customers are:

  • Shorter lead times from design to production and fit outs
  • Retention of key trades and skills in the Milford Haven area
  • Greater ability to undertake more repair and refit work without disrupting the core business of Mustang Marine.
