N-Sea’s new cable layer arrives in the Netherlands for final outfitting

The hull of the dual-fuel cable installation and repair vessel destined for N-Sea Group has arrived from Poland at Neptune Marine’s yard in the Netherlands.

The hull of the 100-meter-long cable-laying vessel (CLV) Altera was launched early in February in Poland, after which it started its journey from the Polish shipyard to the Netherlands, towed by EuroTug Neptune 11.

Now located at Neptune Marine’s Merwede yard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, the vessel’s hull and accommodation unit, constructed in the Netherlands over the past months, will be integrated.

After the integration has been completed, Altera will enter the next phase of outfitting, working towards delivery, expected in June, when it will begin its first inter-array cable installation campaign on the 1.1 GW Inch Cape offshore wind farm in Scotland.

Neptune Marine started the construction of the vessel in March 2025. UAE’s Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has been appointed to deliver the full design, manufacturing, delivery, and commissioning of a cable installation deck spread for the CLV.

The newbuild DP2 vessel will be dual-fuel (methanol) prepared, equipped with a 25-ton offshore knuckle boom crane, mooring system and will be able to accommodate up to 99 people.
