Nevsky Shipyard Launches Fifth Volgo-Don Max

Nevsky Shipyard yesterday launched the vessel “NEVA-LEADER 5”, fifth in the series of 10 self-propelled dry-cargo vessels of RSD49 project, being built for North-Western Shipping Company, JSC. The project is developed by Marine Engineering Bureau-Design-SPb, JSC.

RSD49 project vessels refer to «Volgo-Don Max» class in accordance with the classification accepted by Marine Engineering Bureau. It means that vessels displacement meet the requirements of Volga-Don Shipping Canal.

Main characteristics:

Length overall- 139,95 m

Breadth overall- 16,70 m

Depth – 6,00 m

Capacity of cargo holds – 10920 m3

Deadweight in river (draft 3.6 m) – about 4520 t

Deadweight at sea (draft 4.7 m) – about 7150 t

Service speed – 11,5 knots

The RSD49 project vessels are intended for transportation of general and bulk cargoes including grain, timber, large-dimension and hazardous cargoes of classes 1, 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 of IMDG Code and the Appendix B of the BC Code in the Caspian Sea as well as in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, White Sea, North Sea including routes around Europe and on the Irish Sea in winter.

The feature of RSD49 project vessel is the existence of a big middle hold in fifty two meters long, which makes it possible to transport “design” oversize and heavy-lift cargoes in one way voyage Europe-Caspian Sea. It should affect significantly on cumulative finance result.
