Norway: Bergen Group Chooses EDB ErgoGroup as an IT Supplier

The maritime industrial group Bergen Group has entered into an agreement with EDB ErgoGroup for the provision of IT operating and management services for the group’s core IT solutions. The agreement runs for three years, and represents total contract value of approximately NOK 33 million (approximately USD $5.5 million)

“We were attracted by EDB ErgoGroup’s appreciation and understanding of our challenges and ambitions, combined with the company’s state-of-the-art solutions and efficient delivery chains. In addition, an important factor in our consideration was that EDB ErgoGroup has technical expertise on hand in close physical proximity to our shipyards and office locations”, says Jan T. Skaala, IT-manager of Bergen Group.

Bergen Group is a maritime industrial group with main focus on the offshore industry and specialised vessels. The company was established in 2007 and is a grouping of 19 businesses in total. Bergen Group includes the key shipyards of Rosenberg (Stavanger), Bergen Mekaniske (Bergen), Fosen (Rissa in Trøndelag) and KIMEK (Kirkenes), together with a number of specialist engineering businesses.

“With a number of major businesses making up the group, we need streamlined and standardised IT services that also give our organisation modern tools for collaborative working”, says Jan T. Skaala, IT-manager of Bergen Group.

The agreement with EDB ErgoGroup encompasses operating services and management of the group’s core IT solutions. EDB ErgoGroup won this contract following a competitive bidding process involving a number of potential suppliers. The solution will come into production in May 2011, and the delivery project will start immediately. Bergen Group currently has around 1,000 IT users.

“This agreement with Bergen Group is an excellent example of how our diversified customer offer makes EDB ErgoGroup just as relevant for a company with 1,000 users as for those with 10,000 users. We offer strong solutions for the SMB market. Bergen Group has recognised this, and I am confident that many more businesses will also recognise this in the year ahead”, comments Terje Mjøs, CEO of EDB ErgoGroup.
