Fiskerstrand BLRT Seals the Deal for Two Advanced Gas Powered Vessels

Fiskerstrand BLRT AS and Egil Ulvan Rederi AS have signed contracts for delivery of two advanced LNG-gas powered fish feed vessels. The concept is developed by Multi Maritime AS in close cooperation with Egil Ulvan Rederi AS, based on functional requirements from Marine Harvest ASA.

The vessels are assigned to long term charter parties with Marine Harvest ASA`s new fish feed factory at Bjugn in Mid-Norway.

The fish feed vessels are designed with LNG propulsion system and only shipyards with experience and references to this technology were requested to bid for the building contracts. The two vessels are Multi Maritime AS design, MM 70 CC LNG, and their design number ten and eleven in collaboration with Egil Ulvan Rederi AS. The main particulars are 69.90 m LOA, with a beam of 17.20 m, and depth of 7.90 m from upper deck, The cargo capacity is 5000 m3, corresponding to approximately 3000 metric tons. The vessels will be built according to DNV +1 A1, General Cargo Carrier, Gas fueled, Clean, TMON, E0, or equivalent. The cargo handling system will be delivered by Danish Graintec A/S, and is developed in close co-operations with the ship owners and the charterers for a seamless co-operation with the land based fish feed processing plant. Delivery is planned for June and September 2014.

Through these contracts Fiskerstrand BLRT AS nearby Ålesund has substantially consolidated its position as preferred partner for construction of gas-powered vessels. Previously Fiskerstrand BLRT AS has delivered the car and passenger ferry “Boknafjord”, one of the world’s largest sailing LNG-gas powered ferry. During February Fiskerstrand Verft AS delivered back the former car and passenger ferry M/F “Fjalir” to Swedish AGA, part of the Linde Group. Following a total makeover the vessel now renamed LNGF SeaGas is converted and rebuilt into the first special purpose, vessel to vessel, LNG-gas bunkering tanker in the world.

Including these contracts, Fiskerstrand BLRT AS now has six vessels on order, including four ferries to be delivered to Boreal Transport Nord AS during 2013 and January 2014. These projects further manifest the Multi Maritime AS – Fiskerstrand BLRT AS collaboration as innovative and competent.
