Norway: Statoil Confirms Wireline Tractor Service Contracts with Aker Well Service and Welltec

Welltec and Aker Well Services will deliver solutions for equipment deployment and maintenance in horizontal wells on more than 40 installations on the Norwegian continental shelf.

This technology is important to increase recovery on Statoil’s fields offshore.

Statoil has, together with its partners, awarded Welltec and Aker Well Service AS wireline tractor services contracts for Statoil-operated fields on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS).

Wireline tractor services are used to transport well intervention equipment, such as logging tools, perforating guns and plugs, up to several kilometers in horizontal wells.

Wireline tractor services are also used to perform remedial work to assure and increase production from the wells.

“Wireline tractor services represent a vital and cost effective tool for maintenance in our horizontal wells. Maintenance and repair of wells is one of the most important measures we have to increase recovery”, says Øystein Arvid Håland, head of drilling and well in Statoil.

Welltec’s contract amounts to 40% of the scope and includes the installations operated from Bergen: Gullfaks, Huldra, Kvitebjørn, Visund, Veslefrikk, Valemon, Oseberg, Brage, Troll, Grane, Heimdal, Gullfaks SAT, Oseberg SAT, Vega, Tune, Fram, Vestflanken (Troll), Vale, Vilje, and Bygve/ Skirne.

Aker Well Service’s contract amounts to 30% of the scope and includes the installations operated from Stavanger, Stjørdal and Harstad: Statfjord, Volve, Sleipner, Snorre, Gudrun, Dagny (including Ermintrude) Morvin, Åsgard, Trestakk, Kristin, Heidrun/ SAT, Norne / SAT, Njord, Tyrihans, Mikkel, Yttergryta, Alve, Urd, Aasta Hansteen, Snøhvit,and Hyme.

Mobile drilling, completion and intervention units on the NCS operated from the Stavanger office will be an optional scope where all prequalified suppliers are evaluated and chosen on a job-by-job basis. This amounts to the remaining 30% of the scope.

The contract period is four years and will run from 1 February 2013 until 31 January 2017. Statoil has secured two times two-year options on each contract. The values of the awarded contracts without options are:

– Welltec NOK 540 million.

– Aker Well Service NOK 400 million.

Statoil’s present wireline tractor operations are handled by Welltec and Aker Well Service AS under contracts until 31 January 2013.
