Ocean Installer wins Malta LNG FSU mooring job

Norwegian subsea specialist, Ocean Installer, won a turnkey project for the procurement and installation of a spread mooring chain system for a floating storage unit (FSU) in Malta.

The mooring installation and hook-up takes place in Marsaxlokk Bay, where the FSU will be providing re-gasified LNG for the fueling of electricity generators onshore at Delimara power station, the company said in its statement on Friday.

The ElectroGas Malta, an LNG to power project, which contracted the Ocean Installer, is a consortium comprising three partners with equal shareholding Siemens Financial Services, Socar Trading and Gem Holdings.

The FSU will be supplied by Bumi Armada of Malaysia under a contract signed in April 2015. In December last year, Keppel Shipyard has been given the LNG FSU conversion job by Bumi Armada.

Work on Bumi Armada’s first LNG FSU conversion is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2016.
