On September 22, Polarcus has signed a Letter of Award with TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company ASA for the charter of a Polarcus A-Class 3D seismic vessel ‘Polarcus Adira’ offshore US Gulf of Mexico.

The purpose-built 3D seismic vessel is equipped with specialized, advanced maritime technology to minimize the environmental footprint of the operation and, according to Polarcus, the vessel continues to set new standards for the industry, having been awarded the highest achievable Triple-E(TM) environmental and energy efficiency rating by DNV-GL, the world’s leading ship and maritime classification society.

Commenting on the charter, Rolf Ronningen, CEO Polarcus said: “This will be our first project in the US; the first of many we anticipate in the years ahead. We are especially excited to have this opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities within this important market and we look forward to bringing our unique environmental agenda to the US Gulf and to delivering TGS a very high quality dataset for their multi-client program.”

The survey for TGS will cover an area of 11,500 square kilometers and will involve the technologically-advanced seismic vessel towing a large receiver spread, comprising multiple solid streamers each ten kilometers in length, and a specialized source array designed to focus the acoustic energy in a vertical direction. The program will image both the regional stratigraphy and deep basin structures in the deep-water Central Gulf of Mexico.
