Qatar - Official Inauguration of DIMDEX Conference

His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Heir Apparent of Qatar and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Qatar Armed Forces officially inaugurated the third Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2012).

His Highness was greeted by His Excellency Major General Hamad Bin Ali Al-Attiyah Chief of Staff, Qatar Armed Forces and Staff Brigadier (Sea) Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Mohannadi, Chairman of DIMDEX 2012. The opening address saw hundreds of the world’s leading Naval figures and delegates from the 51 participating countries gather in the conference hall at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) to honour the Heir Apparent and celebrate the opening of this year’s event. Following the official welcome, the Heir Apparent toured the exhibition space, currently home to over 140 companies from 25 different countries represented in this year’s edition.

“His Highness Sheikh Tamim’s continued support and patronage of DIMDEX has helped to make it the region’s leading maritime defence exhibition and conference, and it is thanks to the vision of Qatar’s leadership that DIMDEX has won its international reputation” Staff Brigadier (Sea) Al Mohannadi stated at the inauguration, adding “it gives me great honour to greet His Highness to this event and demonstrate Qatar’s unrivalled ability in hosting world-class events”.

Al Mohannadi went on to thank His Excellency Major General Hamad Bin Ali Al-Attiyah Chief of Staff, Qatar Armed Forces for his continued dedication, leadership and support, adding that the success of DIMDEX was greatly thanks to his commitment to the exhibition and conference.

During the tour, HH Sheikh Tamim met with a number of VIP Delegates from participating countries, senior military figures, Ministers of Defence, Chiefs of Staff and representatives of the countries taking part in DIMDEX 2012.

The most advanced edition to date, DIMDEX 2012 has surpassed the success of previous years, attracting more exhibitors and ensuring high levels of participation. This unique event, the only comprehensive maritime defence exhibition and conference in the region, is set to advance knowledge in maritime issues and offer an opportunity for exhibitors to highlight the latest advances in naval technology.

In addition to DIMDEX 2012 and the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), which brings together the region’s top Naval Commanders, thinkers and academics to discuss the current state of maritime security, the presence of the latest warships at Doha Commercial Port serves to reinforce the importance of the exhibition and conference as one of the world’s foremost military events held in the MENA region.
