Offshore accommodation rig supplier Prosafe said on Monday that the total value of the option was $2.4 million.

According to the company, the firm operational period will now continue through to the end of November 2018.

The Safe Caledonia began a five-month firm operational period at the end of May 2018 at the Clair Ridge platform in the UK sector of the North Sea. The initial five-month contract was valued at approximately $13.5 million.

The accommodation vessel was hired to provide gangway-connected operations to support hook up and commissioning activities.

It is worth noting that both the initial contract and the extension were awarded to Prosafe by BP’s subsidiary BP Exploration Operating Company Limited.

As for the Clair Ridge project, it is the second phase of development of the Clair field which has an estimated eight billion barrels of oil in place.

The Clair field is located 75 km west of the Shetland Islands in 150 m of water and extends over an area of 220 km². The field was originally discovered in 1977 and it started producing oil in February 2005.
