Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom Plans to Join Asia-Pacific Gateway Submarine Cable Project

Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom is planning to join a consortium of the fourteen leading telecommunications service providers with an investment in the new Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine cable project.

Service providers which will invest in the $500 million submarine cable project incorporate: China Unicom, China Telecom, China Mobile, KT Corp., NTT DoCoMo, LG Uplus, Vietnamese Posts & Telecom Group, Viettel, TOT Public Co., Ltd., CAT Telecom Public Co., Ltd., and StarHub.

Chunghwa will be able to deal with the increasing demand for intercontinental data traffic, with investment in its eighth project of this type.

The company plans to broaden its suite of data services through its involvement in the APG consortium.
