A global offshore training specialist yesterday officially opened its revamped Montrose operation. Falck TMS, the Training Management Service arm of global health and safety training provider Falck Nutec, were joined by Scottish Energy, Enterprise & Tourism Minister, Fergus Ewing, and a number of influential clients and business partners in marking the occasion.

The revamped offices and meeting room, based within the Montrose Port Authority building on the South Quay, has undergone a significant five-figure sum development in upgrading the office and training room facilities.

Falck Nutec’s UK training division, which has the capability to provide training on over 200 courses worldwide, have also increased their internal operations and sales teams to cope support the further growth of solution-based safety services.

Mr Ewing stated that the additional offerings would bring substantial benefits to the firm’s operation across Scotland by adding: “I am delighted to formally open Falck Nutec’s newly modernised and refurbished training facility. The investment Falck Nutec have made in this state-of-the-art facility is an excellent testament to the confidence it has in its Scottish operation and workforce, and with safety becoming an ever greater imperative for companies, the training offered by Falck Nutec will be ever more important.

“The skills and knowledge developed in Scotland since the development of the North Sea are a key strength to Scotland’s economy and play a vital role in our future, both in the oil and gas sector and the developing renewable energy sector, and in particular the offshore wind sector. I am delighted that Falck Nutec are already working to transfer these skills, investing to allow them to provide training for the renewable sector as well as to oil and gas companies.”

Alison Barker, UK Business Unit Manager at Falck TMS, views these developments as being key to expanding the scope of services to a wider range of clients. “Traditionally we have always worked with larger multinational Oil & Gas companies, acting as an outsourced training department. However, the current growth and development of our offices now means that we can offer this service to a broader range of industries, and in-turn, further support the growth of Montrose Port Authority. We were very happy that Fergus Ewing agreed to join us on the day and have had positive feedback from a number of our prospective and possible new clients.”

“We have gained a number of new clients over the past year and there appears to be a greater understanding of the benefits of outsourcing training. We tend to find that this stems from the comfort that our service brings, alongside the assurance to external companies that their training compliance is up-to-date, and that what is being delivered meets with the current legislative requirements. We have also noticed a definite upturn in the number of courses that we provide for the marine industry, this will continue to develop with our association with the Montrose Port Authority”
