Umbilicals International opens new quayside manufacturing site in Texas

U.S.-based Umbilicals International (UI) has opened its new quayside manufacturing site in Channelview, Texas.

UI said on Tuesday that the site was beside the ship channel and houses the company’s horizontal helix machine, extrusion line, and supporting equipment.

The company added that it could now offer the typical longer-length cables and umbilicals required for SURF packages. UI will also add additional lines and handling equipment from Seanamic Group company Caley Ocean Systems in 2018.

The firm is a part of the Seanamic Group and works alongside Caley Ocean Systems, IMES International, and Flexlife.

Bob Conners, CEO of Umbilicals International, said: “This site gives Umbilicals International a new and strong future. Our enhanced capabilities at Channelview, coupled with our established 100,000 sqft facility in Stafford means we can offer an extensive range of cable and umbilical products which are an expected component of SURF packages.”

The opening of the new site came three months after Umbilicals International opened its UK facility in Glasgow, Scotland.

“Like our Stafford facility, this Channelview site isn’t just for us: it’s for the Group. The integration offered within the Seanamic Group eases clients’ project costs through reduced interface management, and lean approaches to projects,” added Conners.
