US LNG project edging closer to FID with key equipment orders to Baker Hughes, Honeywell, and Solar Turbines

French-based engineering company Technip Energies has confirmed the go-ahead to three players – Baker Hughes, Honeywell, and Solar Turbines – for equipment purchase orders required to bring a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Louisiana to life.

Technip Energies has received a large award, representing between €250 million and €500 million of revenue, from Commonwealth LNG, being developed by Caturus, a firm controlled by the energy-focused alternative investment manager Kimmeridge. This includes the issuance of purchase orders for the key equipment needed for a 9.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States.

The authorization is part of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract previously signed with Commonwealth LNG and is perceived to mark a significant milestone towards the final investment decision (FID), anticipated in the first quarter of 2026. The purchase orders cover long lead time equipment needed to facilitate the accelerated construction features of the project’s modular approach.

David Lawler, CEO of Caturus, noted: “This significant capital investment in the Commonwealth LNG platform is a key milestone, along with the financing process, which is well underway, and illustrates our level of commitment to developing this global-scale LNG project.

“The Commonwealth project is a crucial component of Caturus’ wellhead-to-water strategy, and this is another important step toward building the nation’s leading independent integrated natural gas company.”

These orders are with industry giants such as Baker Hughes for six mixed-refrigerant compressors driven by LM9000 gas turbines; Honeywell for the supply of six main cryogenic heat exchangers; and Solar Turbines for the provision of four Titan 350 gas turbine-generators.

With a capacity of 9.5 million mtpa, the Commonwealth LNG project, designed with a modular construction approach, will consist of six identical liquefaction trains using Technip Energies’ SnapLNG by T.EN modular and scalable solution.

By leveraging a single design replicated across all six trains, this is said to enable schedule acceleration and cost optimization, while offering greater predictability and certainty at scale.
