VIDEO: Twelve months of seismic activity offshore Mexico

Searcher Seismic’s Seisintel has published a video showing 12 months of marine seismic survey activity in Mexico.

Seisintel, a provider of geospatial products derived from the Automatic Identification System, published a video representing seismic activity conducted offshore Mexico in a period from February 2015 until February 2016.

Seisintel also shared the global snapshot of marine seismic activity in March 2016 with an emphasis on Myanmar where, according to Seisintel, four of the largest seismic spreads in history are being towed for Shell, PTTEP, Woodside, BG and Berlanga.

Following Mexico’s energy reform in 2014, that brought an end to the 76-year Pemex monopoly on hydrocarbon production, foreign companies were invited to participate in development of offshore projects in Mexican waters due to a decade long decline in domestic oil and gas production.

Seismic surveying plays a vital role in exploring for oil and gas and in determining the location and size of oil and gas reservoirs.

According to Seisintel’s video, the companies that were present offshore Mexico during these twelve months include BGP, Dolphin, PGS, SeaBird, Sinopec, SMNG, and WesternGeco.

To remind, PGS, a provider of marine seismic and electromagnetic services and products, conducted its first commercial seismic acquisition project in Mexico in May 2015.

In July 2015, Dolphin Geophysical also performed its first 2D long offset multi-client survey offshore Mexico.

Further, Schlumberger started its multi-client wide-azimuth survey over the Campeche Basin in August 2015 using two fleets of WesternGeco vessels.

Also, TGS, a provider of multi-client geoscience data to oil and gas companies, is currently performing its Gigante 2D seismic project offshore Mexico that will cover 186,000 km. Back in January, TGS said it was halfway through the project.
