Waves to Power Pacific Region

Waves to Power Pacific Region

Speaking at the ADB Pacific business media summit last week in Sydney, Australia, ADB’s senior Pacific energy specialist Anthony Maxwell stressed the fact that renewables are becoming more viable for Pacific Island countries, writes Solomon Star news site.

He said that wave energy is in a similar position as solar power 10-15 years ago, as the market is moving into the new technology.

Maxwell said: “The Pacific region can expect a new kind of energy technology in the next decade following the revelation of efforts to introduce wave power.“

Wave energy seems to be the right answer as the majority of the population lives along the coastline.

The cost of this form of energy will eventually come down “once the market works out the efficient technology and investment comes in a large way.”
