TGS and Chevron jointly pursuing next-gen seismic imaging technology

Norwegian energy data and intelligence company TGS and U.S.-headquartered energy firm Chevron have established a strategic collaboration to advance next-generation seismic imaging technology.

The companies plan to jointly invest in research and development across key technical domains, including Elastic Full Waveform Inversion (eFWI) and machine learning–driven workflows, leveraging TGS’ Imaging AnyWare platform and Chevron’s proprietary algorithms.

“This collaboration reflects TGS’ ambition to evolve into a true strategic imaging partner and to push the boundaries of what is possible in subsurface imaging,” said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS. “Combining our platform, talent and scale with Chevron’s world-class geoscience expertise creates meaningful long-term value for both organizations.”

In a separate announcement, TGS announced the Sarawak Phase 4 multi-client program offshore Malaysia, covering approximately 1,020 square kilometers. Ramform Sovereign will mobilize for the survey in the fourth quarter, with the acquisition expected to be completed in December.

This represents the fourth phase of a multi-client contract to acquire and process up to 105,000 square kilometers of multi-client 3D seismic data in Sarawak, with over 20,000 square kilometers having been acquired over the first three phases.
