China: CMHI entering LNG market through three-party MoU

China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu), Gabadi and Shanghai Aojiheng Offshore Engineering Technology Service signed an LNG project strategic cooperation deal earlier this month.

According to a company statement, CMHI (JS), a unit of China Merchants Industry Holdings, has chosen LNG projects as one of its core businesses, due to the growing application of LNG as fuel.

The company has formed ties with the Spanish company, Gabadi, GTT licensed outfiter, and Aojiheng, which is Gabadi’s agent in China. Gabadi, together with Aojiheng is currently establishing a Chinese entity in order to meet the market demand, the statement reads.

The signing of the latest three-party MOU is to build up a win-win partnership and to set up a creative cooperation mode among the parties. Cooperation with Gabadi and Aojiheng enables CMHI (JS) to shorten the way to enter into the LNG market with GTT membrane cargo containment system.

Currently, CMHI(JS) has a 45,000-cbm LNG carrier with Type-A tanks under construction, and the company is looking to gradually expand its business to LNG carriers, LNG bunkering vessels, FLNG, FSU, FSRUs, all featuring GTT membrane cargo containment system.
