Equinor prolongs Siem vessel’s gig off Norway

Norwegian state-owned energy giant Equinor has exercised an extension option with Siem Offshore, a compatriot shipping company, adding more work to the backlog of an anchor handling tug and supply (AHTS) vessel carrying out operations off Norway.

Siem AHTS Pool (SAP), a subsidiary of Siem Offshore, revealed last week that Equinor had declared a three-month option for the AHTS Siem Opal. The extension entails operations in Norway and will become effective in September.

According to Siem Offshore, this AHTS vessel will continue to support Equinor’s various rig move activities during drilling campaigns. No financial details have been revealed about this extension.

The 2011-built AHTS Siem Opal is of VS 491 CD design and it can accommodate up to 60 people.

When it comes to Siem Offshore’s recent deals elsewhere, it is worth noting that the Norwegian firm secured a contract extension with TotalEnergies in late July 2022 for two platform supply vessels (PSVs), which will continue working off Brazil.
