FEED gig for LNG project on US Gulf Coast comes KBR’s way

U.S.-headquartered science, technology, and engineering player KBR has won a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a planned multi-train liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the Texas Gulf Coast, United States.

KBR’s FEED contract comes after a FEED study was initiated with Solvanic for electrochemically mediated amine regeneration (EMAR) carbon capture at the Coastal Bend LNG project, which recently opted to make use of ConocoPhillips’ Optimized Cascade process (COP OCP) technology to assist in achieving its goal of curbing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The planned 22.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) LNG development will feature multiple liquefaction trains, cogeneration, LNG storage tanks, and export facilities. KBR explains that it will lead the FEED effort, including the entire inside battery limits (ISBL) scope, covering LNG liquefaction and nitrogen rejection (COP OCP technology), gas treatment, and heavy hydrocarbon removal (Honeywell UOP technologies).

The firm will also provide overall coordination between the parties and support Coastal Bend in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) filings and permitting process. The project is envisioned to entail up to five 4.5 mtpa liquefaction trains, cogeneration, LNG storage tanks, and export facilities for shipping, bunkering, and ISO containers.

This LNG assignment follows a detailed engineering deal KBR secured for QatarEnergy’s hydrocarbon redevelopment project off the coast of Qatar.
